MODERN MOTORING

With a drive towards lower emissions, engine design has dramatically changed in recent years, and so too has the oil that keeps the parts moving. Lubricant viscosity levels have decreased to save energy and fuel, which in turn has led to oil galleries and tolerances becoming much smaller. The world of modern motoring is no longer a 20W50 standard.

The environmental approach has also seen the introduction of catalytic converters to the modern exhaust system. This has changed lubricant design, with Zinc Dithiophosphate (ZDDP) content being reduced or removed due to the damage it causes to the catalytic converters and other emission equipment. With ZDDP being a top performer in metal-to-metal wear protection, it is a must-have in older-style engine designs.

As a result of longer service intervals, there is a third consideration in modern vehicle and oil manufacturing:

Cleaning additives that prevent gallery-blocking residue or carbon build-up created during the combustion process. While a certain amount of detergent is needed in a classic-friendly oil, too much can result in other problems; flushing out years of carbon build-up could block a gallery or clean off a layer that was keeping a leak in the gasket sealed.

High (1400ppm) ZDDP/zinc content multigrade engine oil formulated for classic car engines.
API: SL.

SAE 40 ZC:

High (1400ppm) ZDDP/zinc content mineral SAE40 monograde 4-stroke engine oil for vintage cars and bikes. Ideal running-in oil.

EP 90 ZC:

Extreme pressure gear and differential oil featuring anti-foam and anti-corrosion technology. Suited for use in open and limited-slip differentials.
API: GL-5.

CLASSIC COOL ZC:

TL Classic radiator additive that reduces cooling system corrosion and electrolysis while improving heat transfer, resulting in up to 15% cooler running. Suitable for aluminium, cast iron, copper, brass and bronze systems.
